About Pevensey Bay

Pevensey Bay accommodation is perfect for those who enjoy a relaxed environment and beautiful beaches.

Nestled between Eastbourne and Bexhill-on-Sea, Pevensey Bay is a sleepy haven compared to the surrounding towns and cities, offering a tranquil escape from the stresses of working life with its shingle beaches and invigorating air.

Pevensey Bay is steeped in history. It was home to smuggling traders who imported luxury goods to England in the 10th century. Just inland from the coast, Pevensey Levels are a Site of Special Scientific Interest as the marshlands, covering 120 km², contain many nationally rare plants and invertebrates and are packed with birdlife.

Pevensey Castle ruins are well worth a visit, originally resident to the Romans until 1066, when William the Conquer invaded with his army and took it over. The Pevensey Court House, along the high street in Pevensey village, was formerly the local prison up to 1886.

Pevensey village itself has many independent shops and cafes along the high street, and there is an M&S Simply Food on Bexhill Road, plus a large Asda just three miles away. The community also offers a doctors surgery and hairdressing salon.

If you fancy eating out, The Moorings in Pevensey Bay is a very popular, family friendly, beachfront restaurant that offers amazing value and generous portions.

Locally sourced fish and live music on some evenings can be enjoyed at Simply Seafood in nearby Westham.

There are also Indian and Chinese options locally at Raipur and Happy Dragon, with takeout available from both restaurants. And if you’re looking for traditional seaside fish and chips, why not pop along to Rose’s Fish Bar and grab a tasty treat to eat on the beach.

If you want to explore beyond your Pevensey Bay accommodation, trains run every half an hour to Eastbourne town centre. Direct links are available from Pevensey to London Victoria, Brighton and Hastings.

Alternatively you can ride the ‘Wave’ bus into Eastbourne’s Sovereign Harbour retail park and town centre. Buses also run further afield to nearby towns and villages, including Hastings, Waldron and Berwick.
