Looking for self catering Eastbourne accommodation just a minute’s walk from the beach? Hummingbird Cottage is a bright, contemporary seaside retreat for up to four guests, tucked away in a peaceful Sovereign Harbour location.

This calming two-bedroom cottage is ideal for anyone hoping to step back from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy some real tranquillity. Picture yourself having breakfast in the private garden with the sun warming your shoulders as you plan the day’s adventures — the perfect start to a holiday on England’s Sunshine Coast.

Both bedrooms feature comfortable double beds, making this coastal home an excellent base for couples, friends, or families exploring the South Coast — from lazy beach days and scenic walks in the South Downs National Park to visits to nearby historic gems such as Pevensey Castle and Battle, scene of the pivotal events of 1066.

Beautifully refurbished with great care, the cottage offers a level of comfort and warmth that goes beyond the typical holiday rental, encouraging you to unwind and breathe in the fresh sea air.

The well-equipped kitchen has everything needed for self-catering, including an oven, hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, Nespresso machine, kettle, washing machine and dishwasher. A dining table with seating for four completes the space — though you may be tempted away by the great selection of restaurants and cafés around Sovereign Harbour.

Plush carpets run throughout the cottage, adding a cosy touch as you wander from room to room.

The inviting lounge features a sofa and armchair, soft throws and cushions, a selection of books, and a relaxed, airy atmosphere. French doors flood the room with natural light and open directly onto the terrace and private back garden.

A convenient downstairs cloakroom is also provided.

Upstairs you’ll find two elegant bedrooms, each with storage and charming French dressers. There are two bathrooms: an ensuite shower room for the master bedroom and a family bathroom with a bath and overhead shower.

All bed linen and standard towels are included (please bring your own beach towels). For stays of two weeks or more, additional linen is provided. You’ll also enjoy free, fast, full-fibre WiFi and an allocated parking space right in front of the house.

Sovereign Harbour is a sought-after area celebrated for its shifting coastal light and stunning views — from the outer harbour and sea, where seals often appear at low tide, to the lively inner marinas filled with fishing boats and sleek cruisers. Harbour tours, fishing charters, and thrilling high-speed trips to Beachy Head are all available.

The Waterfront is the local hub for dining and shopping, with an English pub/restaurant, Thai, Indian and Italian eateries, a wine bar, gym and hairdresser.

A leisurely stroll along the seafront promenade takes you to Eastbourne in about an hour, with plenty of lovely stops along the way, including the Beach Deck café with its spectacular beachfront views.

As the sunniest place in the UK, Eastbourne offers great swimming, iconic sights like Eastbourne Pier, and a welcoming shingle beach. Just behind the seafront are the town’s theatres — Congress, Devonshire Park, Winter Gardens and the Hippodrome — plus the award-winning Towner Gallery, known for its vibrant contemporary exhibitions.

Shoppers will love exploring the Little Chelsea area, full of independent boutiques, cafés and eateries.

No visit is complete without a trip to Beachy Head and the dramatic Seven Sisters cliffs. Enjoy invigorating walks, breathtaking views, and perhaps a treat from the National Trust café at Birling Gap!

Head east from the cottage and you’ll soon reach Pevensey Bay, Bexhill, then St Leonards and Hastings, where we also offer further self-catering homes for seaside getaways.

Minimum age of lead guest 25+. Smoking, pets and parties are not permitted.

There is a week-long minimum stay in peak season, although flexible arrival days may be possible out of season.

Costs include the weekly rent, a £30 booking fee and a returnable £200 security deposit. To book requires an immediate, non-refundable deposit of £200 per week booked (booking fee and a portion of the rent) and then the balance, including the security deposit, is due by no later than six weeks before your arrival. For stays of three weeks or more, you may be asked to pay a higher security deposit.

The checkout time is 10am on the morning of departure – a fine may be applied if you do not leave on time. Please leave the property in good order – dispose of rubbish in external bins and wash up any pots/dishes before you depart. If the accommodation is left in an unreasonably messy or dirty state, requiring deep cleaning, the cost for this will be deducted from your security deposit.

The security deposit will be returned to you within 1-2 weeks of your departure, minus any deduction for damage, loss or excessive cleaning required.

The property can only be used for the maximum number shown on the booking correspondence. It must not be used for improper, illegal or immoral purposes. Guests must not sub-let the property and must not change, add, move or remove any items of furniture, furnishings or structures inside or outside. Guests must not cause (nor allow any visitors to cause) any nuisance, annoyance or disturbance to neighbours, the property owner or the property owner’s agent.
